ELLY'S BACKSTORY
Elly grew up deep in the forest with her family, part of a tribe most people don't even know ever existed: the Kamirisus. Thunder squirrel gods who were once feared by some humans and worshipped by others, until they disappeared from the world completely and went into hiding among the trees.
She was only two when bulldozers tore through their home and ripped her away from the only life she'd ever known. Everything was gone in a single day: Her home, her father the squirrel king, everything...
The only ones left by her side were three squirrels who had always watched over her: Riot, Pip, and Basil. To them, Elly was the last living piece of the Kamirisus, and they weren't about to lose her too. With nowhere else to go, they carried her into the city and raised her the best they could. They kept her safe, taught her how to survive, and most importantly, made sure she never forgot where she came from.
As Elly got older, the three of them filled her head with stories about the Kamirisus. Thunder gods who once commanded the skies, powerful enough to make humans worship them.
Hearing all that while digging through trash and sleeping in alleyways wasn't exactly inspiring.
Still, she held onto those stories.
After years of being cold, hungry, and chased away by humans more times than she could count, Elly made herself a promise. One day, she'd become the Goddess of Thunder she was always meant to be.
For now, though, she mostly steals nuts and whatever else she can get her hands on downtown, then drags it all back to the squat she calls home.
...Or she makes her squirrels do it for her.
Over the years, the place has turned into an absolute disaster. Nuts everywhere, empty energy drinks, random junk, and a concerning amount of stuff that definitely belonged to somebody else at some point. But...Elly loves it regardless.
Elly is mischievous, way too confident for her own good (which is often outshined by her clumsiness or inability to catch on things quick), and physically incapable of passing up an opportunity to flirt. Somewhere along the way, she also stole a cosplay outfit and decided to start wearing it because, well, she thought it looked cool. That's pretty much the entire reason. The one thing she carries that actually means something is her father's hammer. It's one of the few things she has left from where she came from, and when things get ugly, she's not afraid to use it. Her thunder burns a vibrant pink, and she has some pretty ridiculous abilities. She can move fast enough to look like she's teleporting, launching herself from rooftops and tearing across the city from building to building in a flash of pink electricity. It makes getting away with stealing things significantly easier. Catch her with her hands on something she shouldn't have and, by the time you realize what's happening, she's already gone. Nobody has actually managed to catch her yet. The cops have pretty much resorted to covering the city in wanted posters and hoping someone else gets lucky. There is one problem with her powers, though. Elly is only half squirrel god. Her body wasn't made to handle that much thunder, and every time she conjures thunder within her body, surging from her arms, it corrupts her a little more. Pink marks have slowly started creeping up her arms, a permanent reminder that there's a limit to how much power she can use, even if she's very bad at respecting it. She does occasionally end up fighting bad guys too, although usually not because she actually wanted to. Trouble just seems to find her whenever she lands downtown. Push her far enough, though, and things get dangerous fast. Elly can lose control completely, burning through so much energy that she gets barely recognizable after. All that confidence and chaos disappears, leaving her exhausted, cynical, and honestly kind of miserable. Her solution is usually nuts. Lots of nuts. And energy drinks. If things get really desperate, she'll plug herself into an electrical cabinet and recharge that way. For all the jokes and stealing and pretending she doesn't take anything seriously, Elly trains constantly. Becoming the Goddess of Thunder isn't just some childhood fantasy she forgot about. She still wants it more than anything, and she's proud of being a Kamirisu. She dashes downtown pretty regularly with a new plan in mind to rule over the world, plans that miserably fail most of the time. Just don't ask about her parents. She has absolutely no interest in explaining how a squirrel and a human ended up together, and somehow even less interest in talking about what being their daughter means for her. Being a hybrid has always left her stuck somewhere in the middle. Not fully squirrel, not fully human, she's still trying to figure out where exactly she's supposed to fit in all of that. Until she does, Elly has decided on a much simpler goal. If the world isn't going to worship the Kamirisus anymore, she'll just have to make them worship her instead. Even if she has to do it through a screen...First.
